It’s month 2 of my IPSY Glam Bag subscription, and the only product I’ve used before is the Benefit POREfessional Face Primer. So far it’s been intersting to try products from companies I’ve never heard of before.
“This lightweight formula is made with keratin (the protein that keeps your nails and hair strong) and helps to smooth your strands and reverse damage. Rose water, quartz, and pink sea pearls add major shine and luster.”
I’ve used this 3 times on myself and twice on my daughter so far. I love it. It has a very pleasant tropical scent that dissipates as it dries. It looks really thick in the bottle, so I was surprised at how fine a mist sprayed out. It hasn’t clogged and I haven’t had to clean the spray pump of residue. It’s probably the nicest leave-in conditioner I’ve used to date. It doesn’t leave my hair feeling heavy or greasy like some leave-in conditioners do. My daughter’s hair is long and tangles easily and it was noticably easier to comb after using this. I will definitly be investing in a larger bottle when this one it empty.
The POREfessional Face Primer
“It creates a barrier between your skin and your foundation to prevent oils from wearing down your makeup—that means no uneven, splotchy areas. Use it to help blur the appearance of pores and fine lines for super smooth makeup application.”
I remember being a Benefit pureist back in the day (seriously, it was like the only brand I bought for almost a year) so this was fun to see in my glam bag. There’s not much of a scent to it, if at all. It’s tinted so you don’t have to worry about buffing out any white or whatever odd-colored streaks should any occur while applying. It does a fair job of minimizing my pores, I can tell a difference with and without it.
PHASE ZERO MAKE UP
Satin Eyeshadow in Banana Beige
“This versatile color goes on soft and light, and is very buildable. Plus, the soft sheen makes it a great highlighter when you’re in a pinch. It’s animal-friendly thanks to the 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free formula.”
It’s a gorgeous color, but it blended in too well with my skin tone. It does go on sheer and I think it builds up nicely, it was just too hard to tell with this color. I might give them another try with a different color.
“AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) exfoliate your skin’s upper layer to reveal fresh, bright skin cells beneath—and because they don’t dig too deep, they’re safe for sensitive skin. This mask uses gluconolactone—a super gentle AHA that has hydrating properties for double the benefits.”
It smells spicy. I can’t decide if it’s like sniffing a canister of ground black pepper or if there’s another similar spice that I can’t place. The scent doesn’t last long, but the inital smell is …wow. It applies smoothly, a little goes a long way. It dries nicely too, you can’t feel it after a few minutes and it doens’t leave my face feeling sticky. Can’t say that I saw much difference in my face in the morning. This is probably another one of those products where you have to continually use it for a long period of time to see any real results.
Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer in Park Ave Princess™
“Amazonian clay powders have so many benefits, they absorb excess oils on contact, and brighten, clarify, and soothe your skin over time. It feels silky on your skin, and blends on easy for a streak-free (never splotchy) glow.”
Honestly, I don’t use bronzers. I played with it a bit. It has a nice coconut/tropical scent. It has a slight shimmer and is buildable. If I actually knew what I was doing with bronzers I’d probably like it.
These were my trial-sized add-ons for the month, $3 each and shipped for free with the rest of the contents of the IPSY Glam Bag.
Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara™ in Brynn
“Volumizing fibers coat every last lash (even the teeniest ones) for thicker, more lifted lashes. You only need to apply one coat thanks to the tubing formula that wraps around your lash hairs instantly. The signature Orchid Stem Cell Complex™ nourishes your lashes to encourage growth.”
I was excited for this one! I’ve seen this mascara advertised for a loooong time but never purchased it. It’s interesting. It does an amazing job coating the lashed, and the wand is unlike any I’ve seen before. I’m by no means a mascara expert but of the 8 or so brands that I’ve tried over the years, this one is tops for coverage without clumping.
It clearly defines each lash and dries quickly. If you’re going to apply a second coat you literally have to do it right after the first coat.
The only possible down side to this mascara is that it seems plastic-y? Like with other mascaras, if you rub your eyes at the end of the day it will flake off or smudge. This doesn’t. It kinda peels off? It’s the weirdest thing, I’ll find these mascara strands like the product literally peeled off of a lash.
Watermelon Illuminator Daytime Facial Oil
“Watermelon fruit extract is your new skincare hero. It’s supremely hydrating and is loaded with vitamins A, B, and C to protect from environmental damage. Niacinamide has been getting lots of love lately—and it’s a star ingredient in this face oil. It helps to refine pores, even skin tone and texture, treat acne-prone skin, and get you glowing.”
O.M.G. it actually smells like real fresh watermelons! This makes me want to have everything scented in watermelon. I enjoyed it, my only complaint was that it left my face feeling slightly sticky. It’s a daytime facial oil, but I think if I continue using it I would use it at night or on days I’m staying home. It says you’re supposed to leave it on and not wash it off, but I think I would rather wash it off before putting makeup on over it.
Illuminating Turmeric Polish
“Turmeric helps to reduce dark spots and brighten your overall skin tone. It’s anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties make it great at preventing acne. Walnut and oat granules gently buff away dead skin cells, revealing glowing, luminous skin. It packs a punch, but it’s gentle enough to use every day.”
So I don’t know what I was expecting with this… For some reason I thought tumeric was yellow, so I was expecting a yellow paste. It’s actually cream colored with a couple yellow flecks. It is the most gentle facial scrub I have ever used. It has walnut shell in it, so I was expecting something that felt like the St. Ives Apricot scrub (that one doesn’t have walnut shells, but I was expecting a texture along those line). This was like a hundred times gentler. It doesn’t feel like a scrub to me, more like a …lotion? It’s nice. It has this spicy scent, probably the tumeric, but I’ve never actually smelled tumeric before so there might be some other scents mixed in there. I would definitly buy this again.
