I first heard of Grove Collaborative on Facebook.  I would see an ad for it here and there, and then suddenly it was like Every. Single. Page. was posting sponsored content for them.  After about a week of it flooding my feed, I figured I’d give it a shot.  If it had this many people raving about it I was wondering what I was missing out on.

So What Is Grove Collaborative?

It’s an optional subscription service to have household cleaning supplies and other things delivered on a regular schedule to your home.

How Does It Work?

You have the option of signing up for a subscription or you can just go on and order whatever, whenever like any other shopping site.  If you chose to make a subscription you pick out the items you want and then select how often (every 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 months) you want them shipped.

 What’s The Cost?

The price of the products themselves is comparable to what you would find in your local store.  I price checked at my local Publix about a week after I ordered, and the products from Grove Collaborative were either priced the same or 5 to 10 cents higher.  While $0.10 adds up over awhile, it’s a small price to pay for the convience of having it shipped to your door.

You also have the option of becoming a VIP Member for $19.99 yearly fee.  This gives you free shipping on all your purchases, free returns, and access to exclusive sales.  If you plan on purchasing often or chose to sign up for a subscription, becoming a VIP is worth it for the free shipping alone.

I want to take a moment to say how much I appreciated the packaging.  All of my liquid items came with this tape to prevent any accidental opening of the product.  Can you imagine the mess if that dish soap had managed to pop open during delivery?  So kudos to them for having the foresight to think of that.

Mrs. Meyers Cleaning Products

For the kitchen I basically ordered the first time customer offer and added the Mrs. Meyer’s Surface Scrub in Lavender…because they didn’t have it in Basil.  I’m not a huge fan of floral scents when it comes to cleaners, mostly because they just smell so fake and can be so cloying.  I was relieved to find that the Lavender Surface Scrub actually smells like lavender.  It’s mild, pleasant, and I would definitely order it anytime the Basil wasn’t an option.   Also, my glass top stove is the cleanest it’s ever been.  I honestly didn’t expect the surface scrub to work as well as it did.

The Bubble Up Dish Soap Dispenser & Brush Set

It’s easy to over fill it.  Keep it tucked back behind the faucet so little toddler hands won’t be tempted to try and play with it… because it’s ceramic and full of soap.  Give the brush a quick rinse each time before you return it to the soap dispenser to keep it free of food particles.  I’d give it a good cleaning once a week to keep it from getting too gross.

Grove Collaborative Towels & Sponges

I was excited to try these.  I’d never even heard of a walnut scrubber sponge, so I was wondering how well it would work.  The dish cloths and kitchen towel, well, I haven’t bought new ones in years so why not?

Walnut Scrubber Sponge

It’s a nice sponge. I usually pick up those yellow sponges with the green scrubby side. The absorbency is comparable, but the walnut scrubber is waaaay gentler.  I’ve been using these on my counter tops and occasionally on dishes. They get the job done.  If you’re looking for a soft scrubber you should look into these.

European Dish Cloths

These are okay.  They don’t seem to get that sour smell as fast as my normal dish cloths.  They are very stiff when dry, but absorb a ton of water.  The texture when wet is… different.  It almost reminds me of several layers of wet paper towel, but way more sturdy.  I gave it several tugs in multiple directions when wet to see if the cloth would warp, but there was no give at all to it.  These work well, but I’ll have to use them for a bit longer to see if I love them enough to purchase more.

Kitchen Towel

I love this towel. It’s huge (18 x 28 inches), easily the largest kitchen towel I own.  It dries quickly, which is nice, because who wants to dry their hands on a damp towel?  I will definitely be purchasing more of these in the future.

Method Antibacterial Bathroom Cleaner

I have never tried the Method brand before, but see it all the time in the store.  Thought I would this one a try since I’m not fond of the chemical smell my current bathroom cleaners have.  It was okay, seems to clean as well as my regular cleaners.  The spearmint scent was nice and not over powering at all.

Yes To – Cucumbers Soothing Gentle Milk Cleanser

This was the only thing I purchased that I was disappointed with.  It does work, it’s a very nice gentle cleanser.  My skin can be sensitive, and this has so far caused no irritation whatsoever.  My complaint lies solely in the fact that it’s supposed to be cucumber scented.  For the first half-of-a-second it does smell like cucumbers. Can scents have a weird after-scent? Sort of like how some foods have a weird after-taste?  Because this product had a chemically after-scent.  Would I buy it again? Maybe, if only to see if I got a bad batch. But I would probably buy it in another scent first if I could.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I was please with the service and happy with my purchase.  The items arrived when expected, were carefully packaged, and worked as described.  Since the majority of my shopping is done with small children I don’t always have the luxury of comparing new products and currently used products.  It’s nice to be able to do so on Grove Collaborative at home while their sleeping.

Would I order from them again? Yes, I would.

Would I recommend them to others? Yes, it’s a useful service and I think a lot of parents could benefit from it.  When life gets hectic it’s nice to have an option like this available that lets you have one less errand to run out for.
